Fairfax County makes 40% of the whole GDP in Virginia, making it an economic powerhouse of the state. The number of businesses, operating in information technology reached 8700 in 2021. Most of IT businesses work in B2B and B2G segment. Academic institutions like George Mason University, Northern Virginia Community College, the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech all contribute to the IT ecosystem and Northern Virginia technology companies that define the region.
Fairfax County is traditionally an electronic communication hub, especially in the sphere of cybersecurity, defense, and the aerospace. Smart City, MedTech and AI lead the list of emerging technologies in the County
Fairfax residents include worldwide known Amazon Web Services, DXC.Technology, Oracle, and VMware, European big names like SAP SE and Airbus have operational hubs in the area. Nevertheless, 90 % of the businesses represented in Fairfax County are SME and active in growing their transatlantic network.
