As part of the public hearing on the State of Brandenburg’s new digital strategy presented the perspective of the regional digital economy.

In particular, the association promotes an understanding of digital sovereignty, the role of the government as a key customer, and an open-technology approach to open source. The key task now is to translate these strategic guidelines into concrete applications for the private sector and government.

The new digital strategy builds on the cybersecurity strategy published in January 2026 and broadens the scope to include government, the economy, and digital sovereignty.

“In particular, we support the understanding of digital sovereignty as freedom of choice and the ability to switch providers, the commitment to the state as a key stakeholder, the technology-neutral wording regarding open source, as well as Digitalcheck and the ‘once-only’ principle,” says Sinan Arslan, Executive Director of SIBB e. V.

Above all, digital sovereignty means freedom of choice and the ability to switch providers and systems. The government can act as a key customer to promote innovation and help companies secure their first important references. At the same time, Digitalcheck and the “once-only” principle are intended to help ensure that administrative services are designed with digitalization in mind from the outset and that data is collected only once whenever possible.

Favorable Conditions for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses

With its small and medium-sized businesses, strong research institutions, and proximity to Berlin’s digital economy, Brandenburg offers ideal conditions for technology transfer. However, strategies alone do not transform companies. What matters most is that innovations reach the places where they create value—in the state’s businesses, government agencies, and organizations.

As a network connecting business, academia, politics, and government, SIBB provides guidance and supports small and medium-sized enterprises in particular as they undergo digital transformation.

EDIH Brings Technologies into Practice

Since May 2026, SIBB, as a partner of the European Digital Innovation Hub pro_digital, has been helping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and government agencies put artificial intelligence and cybersecurity into practice.

European Digital Innovation Hubs are regional hubs within a Europe-wide network. Free training sessions, workshops, test labs, and networking opportunities enable companies to test new technologies, build digital skills, and prepare for investments.

In this way, SIBB combines its involvement in the digital strategy with concrete support: strategic guidelines are intended to lead to secure, economically viable applications and new value creation.
