Many European research results fail to realize their full potential in marketable applications. With the new SPIN:RISE programme, EIT Digital is specifically addressing this gap in the commercialization of scientific findings. We are supporting the project as an official partner and are responsible for implementing one of the four technology tracks.
The program, which has already been launched, is aimed at researchers at all career stages, with a particular focus on doctoral students, postdocs and early career researchers. The focus is on teaching practical skills relating to technology transfer, business model development and intellectual property rights. In contrast to traditional entrepreneurship programs, SPIN:RISE takes into account different paths of exploitation, from licensing to industry cooperation to company formation.
Participants receive access to online training, individual coaching and boot camps in European innovation centers. The aim is to provide researchers with the tools they need to implement their ideas successfully at an early stage.
Together with leading players from research and industry, we are responsible for implementing the "Cyber Resilient Societies and Trustworthy AI" track. In doing so, we are not only strengthening Berlin as a location, but also actively contributing to the development of robust, ethically responsible AI technologies.
SPIN:RISE is part of EIT Digital's growing SPIN initiative and focuses on the targeted promotion of diversity. In the predecessor initiative SPIN Explore, the proportion of women was already 50 percent, a strong signal in the direction of inclusive tech development.
The launch of the program comes at a crucial time. In the face of global competition in key technologies such as AI, quantum computing and new materials, it is more important than ever to systematically strengthen the economic exploitation of European research.
Further information and application details can be found on the official EIT Digital project page. We are delighted to be part of this pioneering initiative.
